About Mariia
Mariia Lapitan-Yashchenko is a Ukrainian paper artist who transforms simple material into layered compositions full of depth, texture and emotion. With a delicate balance of creativity and precision, she brings out the expressive potential of paper, crafting artworks that feel both soft and full of life.
For her project with Lessebo Paper, Mariia used a palette from Lessebo Colours including Amazon, Purple Haze, Amethyst, Flamingo, Aubergine, Navy Blue, Canary, Hunter’s Green, Lagoon, Arctic Blue and Misty Blue.
With these tones, she created a layered paper artwork depicting a serene countryside scene — a small blue house surrounded by blooming flowers, gentle hills and grazing cows beneath a soft evening sky.
By exploring how light interacts with the delicate shades and textures of the paper, Mariia brought depth and warmth to every layer. As she describes it, “the texture, the shades, the way the paper catches the light – everything about it makes the process pure joy.”
“Sometimes a single color palette can completely change the mood of a piece”
The result is a tender and joyful composition that captures the peaceful simplicity of rural life, showing how colour and craftsmanship can shape emotion through paper.
